Bangladesh Journals Online (BanglaJOL) was initiated in June 2007 and officially launched in September 2007 by the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP), funded by the UK Department for International Development. In 2014, management transferred to the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), which continues to oversee the project. The platform is hosted by Ubiquity Press and forms part of the Ubiquity Press Network of regional open-access journal platforms.
BanglaJOL is a multidisciplinary database of peer-reviewed, open-access journals published within Bangladesh, covering natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, medicine, engineering, and agriculture. All participating journals must be scholarly, peer-reviewed, and produced within Bangladesh. The platform provides access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full-text articles. Metadata is indexed through Open Archives Initiative search engines, increasing the global visibility of Bangladeshi research.
All materials on BanglaJOL are freely accessible. The platform uses Open Journal System software developed by the Public Knowledge Project in Canada. Copyright of all content is retained by the individual journals or authors. Related initiatives in the Ubiquity Press Network include Nepal Journals Online (NepJOL), Sri Lanka Journals Online (SLJOL), and Central American Journals Online (CAMJOL). BanglaJOL is not a publisher but a hosting and promotion platform for Bangladeshi journals.
