Use of DataThe Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) is the apex coordinating body of Bangladesh's National Agricultural Research System (NARS), established in 1973 by Presidential Order No. 32 under the Ministry of Agriculture. It was created in response to the need for a coordinated national agricultural research program following Bangladesh's independence in 1971. The BARC Act, 2012 further expanded BARC's mandate to allocate research resources and coordinate agricultural research programs across eleven national research institutes and multiple government ministries including Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Environment and Forest, and Industries. BARC won the Independence Award in 2021 for its contributions to research and training.
The BARC Apps Portal (barcapps.gov.bd) consolidates access to BARC's digital applications and services, including its digital archive of agricultural research outputs.
BARC's digital applications and data portal aggregate research outputs, agricultural technology information, and data from across Bangladesh's national agricultural research system. Holdings include research reports, technology bulletins, agricultural statistics, and digital archives of research outputs from BARC's network of eleven research institutes. The portal provides access to web applications supporting BARC's administrative and research coordination functions.
The BARC Apps Portal is publicly accessible online at barcapps.gov.bd. It serves researchers, agricultural professionals, government officials, students, and the public with information on agricultural research activities and outputs in Bangladesh. BARC's headquarters are located at Farmgate, Dhaka.
