The paper published its first issue on June 20, 1983. It was one of the business journals ACBJ acquired in 1986 from Mark Vittert's Business Journal Publications Corp, alongside sister titles in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and St. Louis. ACBJ itself was founded in 1982 by Mike K. Russell and is now owned by Advance Publications, publishing 44 city business journals nationwide under the bizjournals.com platform.
