Ball State University is a public research university in Muncie, Indiana.
Journalism at Ball State is housed in the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication (SJSC), part of the College of Communication, Information, and Media. The school offers journalism concentrations in magazine media, news writing and reporting, and photographic storytelling, plus programs in media design and development, advertising, and public relations, and a graduate M.A. in Journalism.
Ball State traces its origin to 1899, when a private teacher-training school opened in Muncie. In 1918 the Ball brothers, Muncie industrialists and founders of the Ball Corporation, donated the school and its land to the State of Indiana, and it opened as the Indiana State Normal School, Eastern Division. The institution was renamed Ball Teachers College in 1922 in recognition of the Ball family's continued support, became Ball State Teachers College in 1929, and achieved university status as Ball State University in 1965.
