Marksville, Louisiana (print/digital)
The Avoyelles Journal is a free weekly newspaper distributed to nearly every household in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, published from Marksville with a branch office in Bunkie.
The Journal was founded in 1978 by Randy and Susan DeCuir, who built Avoyelles Publishing Company into the parish's dominant local media company, also publishing the Marksville Weekly News (dating to an 1843 predecessor) and The Bunkie Record. After nearly five decades of DeCuir family ownership, Avoyelles Publishing was acquired on August 12, 2025 by Building a Better Avoyelles, Inc., a local nonprofit led by State Representative Daryl Deshotel and Dr. Jay Callegari, converting the company to community, nonprofit ownership while retaining its full existing staff.
The Journal covers parish government, high school sports, obituaries, and community events, and sponsors the annual Avoyellean of the Year award recognizing local civic contributions.
The paper is distributed free in print each Wednesday and published online at avoyellestoday.com, alongside the parish's other Avoyelles Publishing titles.
