Auburn University is a public land-grant research university in Auburn, Alabama.
Journalism at Auburn is housed in the School of Communication and Journalism (CMJN), part of the College of Liberal Arts. The school offers a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in Journalism–Sports Production. The journalism program is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC), most recently reaccredited in 2025.
Auburn was chartered on February 1, 1856, as East Alabama Male College, a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In 1872 it became Alabama's first land-grant institution under the Morrill Act and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. The school was renamed Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1899 and became Auburn University in 1960.
