Auburn, California (print/digital)
The Auburn Journal is a daily newspaper based in Auburn, California, covering Placer County and serving as the flagship title of Gold Mountain Media (formerly Gold Country Media).
The paper's lineage traces to The Placer Weekly Argus, founded in Auburn in 1872 by James B. McQuillan. Through a series of mergers and ownership changes, including the 1914 founding of the Auburn Daily Journal by L.A.P. Eichler and its 1919 sale to Bert Alford Cassidy, who edited the paper for 31 years, the paper became the Auburn Journal. It later passed through W.J. McGiffin Newspapers Inc. and Brehm Communications before becoming part of Gold Mountain Media, a subsidiary of Alta Newspaper Group, in December 2022.
The Journal covers Placer County government, schools, and community life, alongside sister publications including the Placer Herald, Colfax Record, Loomis News, and Roseville Press-Tribune.
Content is available through print subscription and online at goldmountaincanews.com, with combined Gold Country/Gold Mountain Media publications reaching more than 85,000 households in the Sacramento-area foothills.
