The Archivo Histórico de la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (AHUNT) was established on December 1, 2004, by Rector's Resolution No. 1957/04. It was created in response to the need to locate, recover, and register the vast documentary heritage generated by the UNT since its founding in May 1914. Key figures in its creation include former rector CPN Mario Marigliano and Dr. Florencio Aceñolaza. In 2018, the AHUNT joined the Red de Archivos Universitarios (Network of University Archives).
The archive preserves documentary funds pertaining to the history of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, including photographs, newspapers (notably the first university newspaper in Argentina, promoted during rector Horacio Descole's tenure), administrative folders, drawings, and other historical materials. The archive also operates a Digitization Unit that converts physical materials to digital format.
Among the archive's notable holdings is the collection of the first university newspaper in Argentina. The AHUNT also participated in the HIJOS-Tucumán project, dedicated to the reparation of records belonging to members of the university community who were victims of State terrorism during Argentina's last military dictatorship.
The archive is located at Ayacucho 491, San Miguel de Tucumán. Researchers and the general public may visit for consultation. The archive also organizes congresses of history, exhibitions, and other cultural activities.
