Overview

Archīum Ateneo is the institutional repository of Ateneo de Manila University, hosted through its Rizal Library. The platform serves as the central digital portal for the management, dissemination, and preservation of scholarly and creative works produced by the Ateneo de Manila University community, including its affiliates, faculty, staff, and students.

History and Founding

Archīum was conceived by Dr. Ma Louise Antonette De Las Peñas, then Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work, as a platform to highlight the university's scholarly output while observing intellectual property guidelines. Its development was collaborative, involving the Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work, the University Marketing and Communications Office, the IT Resource Management Office, the Rizal Library, and Bepress (Elsevier Digital Commons). Upon launch, the repository was described as the first of its kind in the Philippines. Within a short period of operation, it had hosted over 2,000 papers across more than 300 disciplines and recorded hundreds of thousands of downloads from a worldwide audience.

Archīum Ateneo, specifically the Rizal Library portal, includes:

• Content from Areté's Magisterial Lectures
• Articles from Ateneo-based academic journals
• Theses and dissertations across graduate programs in the Schools of Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, and Management
• Special Collections, including the We Forum and other archival materials

The Rizal Library's physical Special Collections Building (the 'Old Lib') houses the American Historical Collection — one of the world's largest collections of materials on the history of American occupation in the Philippines, comprising over 13,500 books, 18,600 photographs, and additional artifacts.
