Aperta TÜBİTAK Açık Arşivi (Turkey Open Archive)

Overview

Aperta (Türkiye Açık Arşivi — Turkey Open Archive) is a multidisciplinary open access research data and publication repository managed by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM (the Turkish Academic Network and Information Center, a unit of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). The platform is designed to store, preserve, and provide free public access to scientific publications and research data produced or funded by TÜBİTAK.

History and Founding

TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM was established in 1996 under TÜBİTAK. Aperta was developed as part of TÜBİTAK's Open Science Policy, which mandates that publications from TÜBİTAK-funded projects be deposited in the archive. The repository is built on InvenioRDM, an open-source repository platform developed by CERN; TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM actively contributes to the development of new InvenioRDM versions. Aperta launched publicly and received its first data deposit — a dataset accompanying a Turkish Journal of Biology article — making it one of Turkey's largest open science data repositories.

Aperta provides DOI assignment for all deposits, ensuring persistent identification and citability. Uploads are publicly available immediately upon publication, and versioning support allows researchers to update datasets. Restricted-access mode is available for sensitive data, such as anonymized clinical research materials. Usage statistics conforming to international standards are provided for all records. Content is stored on the ULAKNET infrastructure operated by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM.
