An Focal (Irish for "The Word") is the student newspaper of the University of Limerick, published fortnightly during the academic year by University of Limerick Student Life (formerly the UL Students' Union). It is written, edited and produced entirely by student volunteers, funded through advertising and distributed free on campus.
Bound copies of An Focal held by the UL Students' Union date to 1992. The paper won TV3's Tonight with Vincent Browne Student Newspaper of the Year award and the People's Choice Award in 2010 and 2011. In January 2012, then Vice President and Communications Officer Kelly O'Brien launched An Focal Online, an interactive companion news site at anfocal.ie.
