American Forests is a nonprofit conservation and research organization. Founded in 1875, it claims to have “originated the ideas for a national forest system” and supported the creation of the national parks system. American Forests aims to foster a “reforestation movement” by conducting research, partnering on restoration projects, and working with government bodies on conservation policy. Its president and CEO is Hilary Franz, the former Commissioner of Public Lands for Washington state.
