ALM is a media company specializing in business news and information, primarily targeting the legal, insurance, and commercial real estate sectors. Founded in 1979 by Steven Brill as American Lawyer Media, it publishes 33 national, regional, and international magazines and newspapers. ALM also organizes conferences and trade shows, and its Law Journal Press imprint publishes over 130 legal treatises. The company engages in newsletter publishing, court verdict and settlement reporting, professional educational seminars, market research, and content distribution. ALM has undergone several ownership changes, including acquisitions by Time Warner in 1997, U.S. Equity Partners in 1998, Incisive Media in 2007, and a return to independence in 2009 under Apax Partners. Wasserstein & Co. repurchased ALM in 2014. Its product lineup includes The American Lawyer, Law.com, The National Law Journal, and New York Law Journal, among others.
