Alameda, California (print/digital)
The Alameda Journal is a community news publication covering the city of Alameda, California, now published as a weekly section of the East Bay Times under the Bay Area News Group.
Publisher John Crittenden and general manager John McNulty launched the Alameda Journal as an independent weekly in April 1987, filling a gap left by the declining Alameda Times-Star. Hills Newspapers, Inc. acquired the paper in 1992 and expanded it to twice-weekly publication. Ownership passed to Knight Ridder's Contra Costa Newspapers in 1998, then to MediaNews Group in 2006 following McClatchy's purchase of Knight Ridder. The Journal ended free home delivery in 2014 and was consolidated into the East Bay Times in 2016.
The Journal has historically covered Alameda city government, schools, and community life, including a notable 2006 investigative series on the Alameda Power & Telecom financial scandal that received California Newspaper Publishers Association recognition.
Content is available as part of an East Bay Times subscription, in print and online through the paper's website.
