Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN) is a Qatari news media organization headquartered in Doha.
AJMN is chartered under Qatari law as a private foundation for public benefit and is primarily funded by the government of Qatar. Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, a member of Qatar's ruling family, chairs AJMN's board and also chairs Qatar Media Corporation. Sheikh Nasser bin Faisal bin Khalifa Al Thani was appointed Director General in the 2025/26 governance cycle.
AJMN was founded in 1996 by then-Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani with an initial government loan of roughly $150 million, later converted to a grant. In 2011, under Qatari Law No. 10 of 2011, the network was restructured from a public institution into a private institution of public utility.
In September 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice's National Security Division determined that AJ+, AJMN's digital subsidiary, must register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act because it engages in political activity on behalf of Qatar's government.
