Aeon is a digital magazine of ideas covering philosophy, science, psychology and culture, publishing new long-form essays and curated videos on most weekdays, free to all readers.
Aeon was founded in London in September 2012 by Paul and Brigid Hains. It became a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission in 2016 and registered its U.S. affiliate, Aeon America, as a 501(c)(3) organization. In April 2020, Aeon launched a sister publication, Psyche, covering psychology and mental health. In 2022, it launched Sophia Club, a live-events program pairing philosophical conversation with music and performance in Melbourne, New York and London.
Aeon essays have repeatedly been selected for National Geographic's "Top Science Longreads" and anthologized in "The Best American Science and Nature Writing" and "The Best Writing on Mathematics." Editorial director Brigid Hains won the Australasian Association of Philosophy's Media Professionals' Award in 2018.
