Springfield, Illinois (broadcast/digital)
ABC Channel 20 News, branded on-air as WICS ABC 20 / NewsChannel 20, is the ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Springfield, Illinois, serving the Springfield-Decatur market in Central Illinois. Its semi-satellite station, WICD (channel 15), serves the eastern Champaign-Urbana portion of the market, with the two stations sharing newscasts and a website.
WICS began broadcasting on September 17, 1953, originally as a primary NBC affiliate that also carried some CBS and DuMont programming. Ownership passed through Plains Television Partners, Guy Gannett Communications, and Sinclair Broadcast Group, which acquired the station in 1999. WICS and WICD swapped affiliations from NBC to ABC in September 2005. In 2025, Sinclair sold WICS and WICD, along with several other Midwestern stations, to Rincon Broadcasting Group, a sale approved by the FCC on July 1, 2025 and completed on July 9, 2025.
The station produces local newscasts under the NewsChannel 20 brand covering news, weather, and sports for Central Illinois, and through shared-services arrangements has also contributed news production for the market's Fox affiliates.
Newscasts are broadcast over the air on channel 20 (virtual) and available via cable and satellite providers in the Springfield-Decatur market, with articles and video also published on the station's website.
