Overview

The Aarhus University Pure portal is the institutional repository and research information system of Aarhus University (AU) in Denmark. Accessible at pure.au.dk, it is used to collect, maintain, and provide visibility to publications, research projects, and academic outputs produced by AU researchers, staff, and students. Pure is a product developed and maintained in collaboration with Elsevier, and is used by all higher education institutions in Denmark.

History and Institutional Context

Aarhus University is Denmark's second-largest university, founded in 1928 and based in Aarhus. The Pure system serves as AU's central research information platform. Organizationally, the AU Pure team is anchored within AU Library, which is part of Det Kongelige Bibliotek (The Royal Danish Library). The AU Pure team manages publication validation, user support, and system administration in close collaboration between the university and the Royal Danish Library.

Collections and Holdings

The Pure portal aggregates scholarly publications, conference papers, books, book chapters, and other research outputs from Aarhus University's five faculties, 32 departments, and Aarhus University Hospital. It supports open access (both Green and Gold routes) and since 2024 integrates with Wiseflow for student thesis submissions. The portal also displays collaboration maps, researcher fingerprints, and project information, and is linked to ORCID researcher identifiers.

Access and Usage

The Pure portal is freely accessible to the public for browsing and searching publications. Researchers at AU register their publications via the system, and AU Library validates and enriches the records. Open Access publications are freely downloadable. AU Pure also participates in Denmark's national research infrastructure for research outputs.
