Use of Data100 Days in Appalachia, founded in 2017 is a nonprofit regional news website based in Morgantown, West Virginia. The project started to narrate the first 100 days of the Trump administration “through the eyes of all sorts of people who live in Appalachia.”
The editorial position of the paper operates on the belief that their region is as diverse as the rest of the nation, but is often portrayed inaccurately in the media. 100 Days collaborates with other organizations and newsrooms on issues involving the 13-state Appalachian region to reflect its diversity.
On December 18, 2023, MacArthur Foundation announced a $1 million grant to 100 Days in Appalachia, in support of its news reporting on issues of significance to residents of Appalachia, with an emphasis on reaching young people and leading a community of practice, providing security and safety training, and other support services for reporters covering extremism.
100 Days was incubated and launched at the West Virginia University Media Innovation Center.
Funders include: West Virginia Public Broadcasting, the Daily Yonder, the Center for Rural Strategies, GroundTruth Project, Democracy Fund, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, Ford Foundation, Park Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, One Foundation, Wyncote Foundation, Facebook Journalism Project Community Network, Google News Initiative, McClatchy Company, Bob Kittle, Alexis and Jim Pugh.
100 Days in Appalachia is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News.
